It’s rather hard not to love Scissor Sisters, isn’t it? They’re one of those groups everyone seems to like, at least a little bit. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered anyone who stated emphatically that they do not like Scissor Sisters. At worst, they’ve never heard of them. Which is sad, but whatever.
It’s not that their stuff sounds wildly different from more popular stuff you’ll hear on the radio — LMFAO could perhaps be considered a descendant of the Sisters. But the Scissor gang has a certain spark of originality. They do their own thing, and it never feels manufactured or too tailored to be a hit. They always sound like they’re genuinely having a good time, which allows us to have a good time with them.
Scissor Sisters have a new album coming out this year, and I am digging this new single. It’s a little offbeat, but not too off, just like all my favorite songs of theirs. The video is cute, if not something I’d want to watch very many more times. It was obviously done quickly and cheaply, and I’m fine with that.
I’ll admit that Scissor Sisters fell off my radar for awhile after their initial heyday. I’ve always meant to listen to more of their last album Night Work, but I never did. This new album should give me a nice chance to correct my recent error of forgetting about them, because I really do miss the brand of fun and slightly crazy electro-pop they bring to the table.
Really, it’s hard not to love them.
